January 2020Monnickendam Diamonds will be celebrating 130 years of business this year. Originally based in Amsterdam, the diamond rush in South Africa, brought a boom to Amsterdam as a cutting centre when the Dutch buyers returned with rough stones.
This boom meant that the diamond cutters based in Amsterdam saw their normal wage of £5 to £6 per week rise to £40 to £50. Our current cutters are very happy that salaries have moved with the times.
